Hi I was wondering where would be the best place to find out about the Slabtown community. South Lamar County.  I live what was once known as the Old Henderson Orchard…would love to find out what I could about what things were like in the past. Thanks Georgia

Hi, Georgia. didn’t find much on Slabtown, but did see an old news clipping on file. Send me your address and I’ll mail a copy to you (has a picture of the old Slabtown store once owned by Jay Gentry.) I’m at 2400 Clarksville St, Paris TX 75460. The name came from a sawmill that cut logs into slabs. It was located in southeast Lamar County.

Thanks so much for getting back to me.I remember Mr.Gentry while we were growing up he ran a little store across the Sulphur River from us. I knew there were several stores here in Slabtown but they were all gone when we moved down in 1966. I think the saw mill may have been where our farm is now but not for sure..Here is my name and address:  Georgia McCool- Rt4 Box 1158 A-3, Paris Texas, 75462 Thanks again..
